Now

Mlbopeningday2006Ahora. 今。Itá. Nå. Attualmente. Sasa. Maintenant. теперь. Agora. Núorðið. An-dràsta. Ngayón. Jetzt. I kēia manawa. 지금. Nunc. Ankehitriny.

While we’re waiting for the Red Sox to return, try and guess which languages I used.

Comments

These guesses are off the top of my head, no google or babelfish:
English
Spanish
Japanese
Italian
Swedish
Portugese
Afrikaans
French
Russian
Spanish
Greek
Flemish
Vietnamese
German
Hawaiian
Korean
French
Polish

3 more hours!

Twitch has 8 out of 18. There are no languages duplicated, by the way. Also, I had to correct one phase as I used the incorrect meaning, so "a nis" is now "an-dràsta."

English,
Spanish,
Japanese,
Norwegian,
Danish,
Italian,
Swahili,
French,
Russian,
Portuguese,
Greek,
Urdu,
Vietnamese,
German,
Hawaiian,
Korean,
Polish,
Turkish

Brian got 11 right. These are the ones people are having trouble with:

Itá

Núorðið
An-dràsta
Ngayón
Nunc
Ankehitriny

Of the list above, two are Scandinavian languages. All but two are native to islands or archipelagos. One is not spoken any longer. Four are Indo-European languages and three are Austronesian languages.

Quotable
raftman A slow outfielder who appears to be poling a raft rather than running. The images used to describe slowness on the diamond are often nautical. An example from a 1912 collection of baseball slang: “He couldn’t beat a towboat that was tied to the bank” (Sporting Life, May 18, 1912). — The New Dickson Baseball Dictionary
